Supply of and demand for the pharmacy workforce in Great Britain

This report was commissioned by the DH to help inform the Government’s response to the OFT report recommending that control of entry regulations for community pharmacies in the UK should be ended. This report looks at the availability of qualified pharmacy staff and concludes that the pace of expansion brought about by deregulation is likely to be constrained by the supply of qualified staff. Supply side data from the workforce census and other data sources, including UCAS and the RPSGB forms part of the review, and trends in pharmacists supply are described. Future supply is considered, and the current demand for community pharmacists is also assessed.
