Knowledge and technology transfer

A Licence Agreement has recently been signed between The University of Manchester (via its IP commercialisation company, UMIP) and Link Technologies Ltd on Exciplex technology developed in the research groups of Prof. Ken Douglas and Dr. Elena Bichenkova (School of Pharmacy, FMHS).

Our achievements in commercialisation of Exciplex-based DNA molecular probes have been recognised by BBSRC as an example of turning scientific concepts into commercial success. Novelty and industrial potential of our research has been acknowledged in a form of short publication in BBSRC Brochure 2008 (PDF, 127 KB).

Accolade for Scientific Journal

The Institute for Scientific Information has released its analysis of the 2008 performance of scientific journals, which is expressed through their impact factors. The journal Reactive & Functional Polymers, whose Editor-in-Chief is Prof. Nicola Tirelli, has sharply improved its performance for the second successive year.

Prof. Tirelli took the editor role at the end of 2006. Since this time, the journal has improved its standing in the scientific community with an increase of impact from 1.56 in 2006 to 2.03 in 2008.

It is currently listed in the 18th position (out of 73) in the field of polymer science and in the 19th (out of 116) in that of chemical engineering
