About us

Manchester Pharmacy School was established in 1883 and was the first in the UK to offer degrees in pharmacy in 1904.

We currently provide undergraduate education to nearly 800 students. We also offer a range of postgraduate programmes, including taught courses and research programmes.

Manchester Pharmacy School also houses the Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education (CPPE), which is a national provider of continuing professional development (CPD) programmes for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians across England.

We undertake world-leading multidisciplinary research ranging from basic pharmaceutical science to applied pharmacy practice.

Our research has a demonstrable impact for patients and the public, and we are known nationally and internationally for our particular strengths in the areas of:

  • cancer biology and drug development;
  • biofilms and infection;
  • predictive and translational pharmacokinetics research on drug metabolism;
  • prescribing and medicines safety;
  • workforce planning;
  • evaluation of pharmacy services.
